Food Labelling, Food Safety & Shelf Life Workshops

How much do you know about food labelling? Do you know your ‘Quids’ and ‘Claims’?

Do you know enough about Food Safety and how to determine Shelf Life? Bacteria can seriously contaminate and grow in your products and cause an outbreak of food poisoning. This can result in prosecution and even jail in serious cases.

How much would it cost?

The following workshops are FREE OF CHARGE to *eligible businesses and are funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

  • Understanding Consumer Regulations
  • Using key words and permitted names
  • Managing and maintaining quality standards
  • Declaring ingredients and composition
  • Know your allergens and how to label them
  • How to work out nutritional values
  • Labelling of weights and measures
  • How to ensure batch traceability and coding methods
  • What happen if things go wrong and you have a claim

What it covers:

  • Overview of hazards and scale of issues
  • EU & UK legislations on food safety
  • Different types of hazards
  • Chemical, Physical, Allergenic, Microbiological
  • How to control contamination and microbiological activities
  • How to determine shelf life
  • Due diligence

How do I book my FREE place? (Do you meet the eligibility criteria?)

(One place per business only. If booking both workshops, you can send a different representative for each workshop)

*Eligibility criteria

1. You must be a food and drinks producer and/or sell to other businesses

2. Your business employ less than 250 people (full time equivalent)

3. Your business must be based in Cumbria

4. You MUST commit to TWELVE hours of business support assistance. Therefore attendance of both workshops (12 hours) OR if you prefer to attend only 1 workshop (6 hours), we will work with you to give you a further 6 hours practical 1-2-1 business support with a specialist business adviser to support your business growth.

5. Businesses which have not already received at least 12 hours support or £1,000 subsidy through the current ERDF Growth Hub project (since December 2015) will be prioritised.If you prefer to use your remaining 6 hours for a different workshop, please email eva@cumbriachamber.co.uk to find out what is available.
