Family Business Network

Cumbria is one of five regions in the country to benefit from a Rural Growth Network (RGN), set up to help rural areas overcome the barriers to economic growth such as a shortage of business premises and poor broadband access.

The Rural Growth Network is part of the £165 million programme of measures that the Government is delivering to grow business and create new job prospects in rural areas.

Cumbria County Council is leading the RGN on behalf of Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership and the services are delivered by a range of specialist organisations and partners, which will deliver business support to a range of sectors.

Physical Hubs around the County act as focal points for local business communities and offer an access route to networking and other support, physical and virtual. To find out your nearest hub, click here.

All of these Hubs will be networked with one another, acting as centres to facilitate knowledge transfer, provide mentoring, training and skills development to enable businesses to grow and capitalise on new opportunities.

Forming a coordinated network, these will support our upland communities, acting as the focus for networks and business support. We have invested in multi-use rooms in each hub for use for client meetings, advice/mentoring, networking, training, remote learning, etc. In line with local needs, some will incorporate small workspace facilities.

In addition to these activities, with significant immediate job creation opportunities, each Physical Hub will benefit from capital investment in work spaces to meet the needs of its local area, focussing on the key themes of food & drink, digital & creative, adventure capital & country sports, women enterprise, social enterprise and agribusiness & forestry.

With drop-in clinics, specialist advice, one-to-one mentoring, coaching, loans, grant funding and property, you’ll find the support you need to set up your business and help it grow.
